Usage Note
Verter is an irregular -e-ie- stem-changing verb: vierto, viertes, vierte… It covers pouring a liquid deliberately (verter agua en un vaso) as well as accidental spilling and figurative shedding (verter lágrimas, 'to shed tears'). It also appears in environmental contexts — verter residuos ('to dump waste') — and in translation: verter al español ('to render into Spanish').
