Usage Note

Vertical is invariable in gender (un plano vertical, una línea vertical) and takes a regular plural: verticales. It contrasts with horizontal. Used figuratively in business, integración vertical ('vertical integration') means a company controlling multiple stages of production. In printing and design, formato vertical refers to portrait orientation, as opposed to horizontal (landscape).
