Usage Note

Acercar in its transitive sense means to move something nearer (acerca la silla, pull the chair closer). The reflexive acercarse a means 'to approach' or 'to draw near to' and is the more frequent form in everyday speech. Do not confuse with acertar (to get right / to hit the mark).
