abrazar

to hug

verb ah-brah-SAHR Rare

Also means

to embrace

Usage Note

Abrazar ends in -zar, so the first-person preterite is abracé (c replaces z before e). Do not confuse with abrasar (to burn), which is spelled differently and has a completely different meaning — a common written-Spanish error. Darse un abrazo is the noun phrase ('to give each other a hug').

Examples

"Los amigos se abrazaron al despedirse."

Natural Translation

The friends hugged each other when saying goodbye.
