Usage Note
Sopa is feminine and refers broadly to any soup. The phrase estar hecho una sopa (to be soaking wet) is a common idiom. In Spain, sopa de ajo (garlic soup) and gazpacho are iconic; note that gazpacho is served cold and is usually not called sopa in informal speech, even though it technically is one.
