turbulento

turbulent

adjective toor-boo-LEN-toh Rare

Also means

stormy, troubled

Usage Note

Turbulento describes both literal turbulence (rough air or water) and figurative unrest: una época turbulenta ('a turbulent era'). The feminine is turbulenta. It is a false friend for English 'turbulent' only in register — in Spanish it is slightly more literary than its English counterpart.

Examples

"El vuelo fue muy turbulento."

Natural Translation

The flight was very turbulent.
