absoluto
absolute
adjective ahb-soh-LOO-toh Less Common
Origin: From Latin absolutus (freed, completed).
Also means
complete
Usage Note
Absoluto agrees in gender and number (poder absoluto, silencio absoluto). The fixed phrase en absoluto (not at all) is a common false-friend trap: it functions as a strong negative, not as 'absolutely' (— ¿Te molesta? — En absoluto, 'Not at all'). The adverb absolutamente does mean 'absolutely' in the affirmative sense.
Examples
"Hubo silencio absoluto en la sala."
Natural Translation
There was absolute silence in the room.
Literal Translation
There-was silence absolute in the room
