plug

noun TAH-koh Rare

Also means

swear word

Usage Note

Taco has several meanings that vary strikingly by region. In Spain it most commonly means a wooden or plastic plug, a pad of paper, or — colloquially — a swear word (soltar tacos: to swear). In Mexico and much of Latin America it primarily refers to the corn-tortilla food. The homograph taco (heel of a shoe, billiard cue tip, or a traffic jam in Chile) adds further regional nuance learners should be aware of.

Examples

"Clavó el cuadro con un taco en la pared."
