rotundo

resounding, emphatic

adjective rroh-TOON-doh Rare

Also means

rotund, round

Usage Note

Rotundo most often describes a categorical, unambiguous response: a rechazo rotundo is a flat-out rejection, and a éxito rotundo is an unqualified success. The sense of physical roundness exists but is far less common in modern use. Do not confuse with English 'rotund,' which almost always refers to body shape.

Examples

"Dio una negativa rotunda a la propuesta."

Natural Translation

He gave a flat-out refusal to the proposal.
