Rotura denotes a physical break or fracture — in a bone (rotura de fémur), a pipe (rotura de tubería), or a ligament (rotura de ligamento). It is more specific than ruptura, which is preferred for abstract breaks (a relationship, a diplomatic tie). Both derive from Latin rumpere.
