Lata is the everyday word for a tin can (una lata de tomate) as well as colloquial for a bore or nuisance (¡qué lata! = what a drag!). The colloquial verb dar la lata means to pester or annoy someone. Note the gender: la lata is feminine despite the common pattern; el latazo is an intensified colloquial form meaning 'real bore'.
