jueves
Thursday
noun HWEH-bes Less Common
Origin: From Latin dies Iovis (day of Jupiter).
Usage Note
Jueves is invariable: el jueves (this Thursday / on Thursday), los jueves (on Thursdays). Days of the week are not capitalized in Spanish. Jueves Santo is Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday), a major holiday in Spain and Latin America. The famous superstition 'neither marry nor embark on Thursday nor Saturday' (En martes, ni te cases ni te embarques) actually warns against Tuesday, not Thursday.
Examples
