martes
Tuesday
noun MAHR-tehs Less Common
Origin: From Latin Martis dies, 'day of Mars'.
Usage Note
Martes is invariable: the plural is also martes (los martes). Days of the week are masculine and are not capitalised in Spanish. Martes y trece ('Tuesday the 13th') is the unlucky day in Hispanic culture — equivalent to Friday the 13th in English-speaking countries. Use el martes for 'on Tuesday' (specific) and los martes for 'on Tuesdays' (habitual).
Examples
"El partido es el martes por la noche."
Natural Translation
The match is on Tuesday evening.
