Usage Note
Infanta is the title given to a daughter of the Spanish monarch who is not the heir to the throne. The male equivalent is infante. Historically the title was also used in the Portuguese royal family. Do not confuse with infante, which in non-royal contexts can mean 'infant' or a foot soldier.
