gimnasio
gym
noun heem-NAH-syoh Rare
Origin: From Greek gymnasion, from gymnazein ('to exercise naked').
Also means
gymnasium
Usage Note
Gimnasio covers both the modern fitness gym (ir al gimnasio) and the traditional school gymnasium. In most Spanish-speaking countries the common shortening el gym (borrowed from English) is used informally, especially among younger speakers. Note the silent cluster: the g before i is pronounced as an 'h' sound, not a hard 'g'.
Examples
"Voy al gimnasio tres veces por semana."
Natural Translation
I go to the gym three times a week.
