Usage Note
Extender (the canonical form; the seed extiender is a non-standard spelling) is an irregular stem-changing verb (e→ie in stressed syllables): extiendo, extiendes, extiende. It is used for spreading something physically — extender la mantequilla (to spread butter) — and metaphorically — extender una invitación (to extend an invitation). The reflexive extenderse means to spread or stretch: el desierto se extiende por miles de kilómetros.
