Usage Note

Acerca is almost exclusively used in the prepositional phrase acerca de ('about, concerning'), which is more formal than sobre in written registers. Standing alone as a pure adverb ('nearby') is archaic; modern Spanish uses cerca for proximity. Learners should treat acerca de as a fixed unit.
