Also means
to die
Usage Note
Expirar covers two main senses: a contract, passport, or deadline expiring (el plazo expira mañana) and, in literary or medical register, a person dying (expiró al amanecer). Do not confuse with espirar (to exhale, a breathing term), which differs by just one letter. The more everyday word for dying is morir.
Examples
"Su pasaporte expiró el mes pasado."
Natural Translation
His passport expired last month.
