enderezar

to straighten

verb en-deh-reh-SAHR Rare

Also means

to correct

Usage Note

Enderezar literally means to make something straight — a bent nail, a crooked picture — but figuratively it means to set something right or correct a situation. The reflexive enderezarse is used for a person standing up straight or recovering composure. Do not confuse with endurecer (to harden), which looks similar.

Examples

"Enderezó el cuadro que estaba torcido."

Natural Translation

He straightened the picture that was crooked.
