Usage Note
Desde marks the starting point of a span in space ('from a place') or time ('since a moment'). In time expressions it pairs with hasta to frame a period: desde las ocho hasta las diez 'from eight until ten'. The construction desde hace + time period expresses duration of an ongoing state: vivo aquí desde hace tres años 'I have lived here for three years', using the present tense where English uses the perfect.
Examples
"Estudio español desde hace un año."
Natural Translation
I have been studying Spanish for a year.
