criticado

criticized

adjective kree-tee-KAH-doh Rare

Usage Note

Criticado is the past participle of criticar used adjectivally. It usually appears after ser or estar or in a noun phrase modifying a person or action: una medida muy criticada = a much-criticized measure. Unlike the English 'criticized', which implies a finished act, criticado can describe an ongoing state of being under criticism. The noun crítica is feminine; el crítico / la crítica names the person.

Examples

"La decisión fue muy criticada por la prensa."

Natural Translation

The decision was heavily criticized by the press.
