admitir

to admit, to accept

verb ahd-mee-TEER Less Common

Also means

to acknowledge

Usage Note

Admitir covers both granting entry (el club no admite menores) and conceding a fact (admitió su error). Unlike confesar, it does not carry a strong sense of guilt. When conceding a fact it takes que + indicative (admitió que se había equivocado).

Examples

"Tuve que admitir que me había equivocado."

Natural Translation

I had to admit that I had been wrong.
