Usage Note
Comida means both food in general and the main midday meal in Spain — so la comida can refer to lunch specifically. In Latin America the main evening meal is often called la cena, while comida still means the midday meal. Comida rápida is fast food, and comida casera is home-cooked food. The word derives from comer (to eat).
