buscar

to search for

verb boos-KAHR Common

Also means

to look for

Usage Note

Buscar takes a direct object without a preposition (busco trabajo, not busco por trabajo), unlike the English 'search for'. It also means 'to pick someone up' in conversational Spanish (te busco a las ocho = I'll pick you up at eight). The spelling changes to busqué in the preterite first person.

Examples

"Busco las llaves por toda la casa."

Natural Translation

I'm looking for the keys all over the house.
