aficionar
to make keen on; to get interested in
verb ah-fee-syoh-NAHR Rare
Usage Note
Aficionar is almost always used reflexively: aficionarse a algo means 'to become a fan of something' or 'to take up a hobby'. The derived noun aficionado has entered English as a loanword meaning an enthusiastic amateur or devotee. Avoid the transitive non-reflexive form unless you mean 'to inspire enthusiasm in someone else' (me aficionó al fútbol = 'he got me into football').
Examples
"Se aficionó al jazz desde niño."
Natural Translation
He became a fan of jazz from childhood.
Literal Translation
He-became-keen-on the jazz from child.
