to adjust
Usage Note
Adaptar is used transitively (adaptaron la novela al cine, 'they adapted the novel for the screen') and reflexively (adaptarse a), where adaptarse a is the standard phrase for adjusting to a new environment or situation. The reflexive construction is the more frequent one in everyday speech: me costó adaptarme al nuevo trabajo ('it took me a while to adapt to the new job').
