Also means
to seize
Usage Note
Asir is a highly irregular, largely literary verb meaning to take firm hold of something. It is defective: forms whose ending begins with a vowel are used, but first-person singular present asgo exists and triggers the full subjunctive (asga). In everyday speech agarrar or coger are preferred.
Examples
"Asió el bastón con fuerza."
Natural Translation
He grasped the cane tightly.
