Usage Note

Transcurso is almost always found in the fixed phrase en el transcurso de (in the course of / during), which signals time passing (en el transcurso de la reunión = during the meeting). It is a formal or written word; in conversation durante alone is more natural. The related verb is transcurrir (for time to pass).
