Usage Note
Suspirar is a regular -ar verb used both literally (to exhale with a sigh) and figuratively to mean to long for something — 'suspirar por algo' means to yearn for it. The related noun is suspiro (a sigh), which in some Latin American countries also names a light meringue-based sweet. The phrase 'suspirar de alivio' (to sigh with relief) is very common.
