aburrir

to bore

verb ah-boo-RREER Rare

Usage Note

Aburrir follows the same reflexive/non-reflexive split as gustar-type verbs: aburrir a alguien means 'to bore someone' (the subject causes boredom), while aburrirse means 'to get bored' (the subject experiences boredom). The adjective aburrido with ser means 'boring' (an inherent trait), but with estar it means 'bored' (a current state)—a classic ser/estar distinction learners must master.

Examples

"La película me aburre."
