Usage Note

Sudor is both the physical substance (sweat) and, idiomatically, hard labour — con el sudor de su frente ('by the sweat of one's brow') echoes Genesis and is still common in speech. The verb is sudar. The idiom sudar la gota gorda ('to sweat the big drop') means to work extremely hard or to be very anxious.
