abductor

abductor

noun adjective ahb-dook-TOHR Rare

Origin: From Latin 'abductor', from 'abducere' (to lead away).

Usage Note

Abductor is primarily an anatomical term for a muscle that moves a limb away from the body's midline, such as the hip abductors. As an adjective it modifies a noun: músculo abductor. It should not be confused with secuestrador ('kidnapper'), which is the correct Spanish for someone who abducts a person.

Examples

"El abductor de la cadera estaba tenso."

Natural Translation

The hip abductor was tense.
