Usage Note
Sudeste (also written sureste in Latin America) names both the compass direction and the geographical region. Spain tends to use sureste in everyday writing, while sudeste appears more in formal or technical contexts. As a directional noun it is invariable when used as an adjective: viento sudeste (southeast wind).
Examples
"La tormenta avanza hacia el sudeste."
Natural Translation
The storm is moving toward the southeast.
