Usage Note
Soviético refers to the former Soviet Union (la Unión Soviética) and its culture, politics, and citizens. As a noun, los soviéticos means 'the Soviets'. In contemporary usage it retains a purely historical sense; there is no ambiguity with 'Russian' (ruso). The word is a borrowing via French from Russian Soviet ('council'), though this origin is rarely productive knowledge for learners.
Examples
