Usage Note

Requerir is a stem-changing verb (e→ie in stressed syllables: requiero, requieres). It is more formal than necesitar and often appears in written or institutional language (se requiere experiencia). The noun requisito ('requirement') shares the root. In legal and official texts, requerir can also mean 'to summon' or 'to formally demand'.
