repulsión

repulsion; repugnance

noun rreh-pool-SYOHN Rare

Origin: From Latin 'repulsio', from 'repellere' (to drive back).

Usage Note

Repulsión is used in both physical science (the repulsive force between like charges) and in emotional/social contexts to express deep disgust. In physics the opposite is atracción. In everyday language it implies a stronger aversion than rechazo (rejection) — closer to revulsion. The plural repulsiones is regular.

Examples

"Sintió repulsión ante esa imagen."

Natural Translation

She felt repulsion at that image.
