Presente works as adjective ('current, present'), noun (el presente = the present time or the present tense in grammar), and standalone response when answering a roll call: ¡presente! ('here!'). As an adjective it is invariable by gender (el momento presente / la situación presente). The noun un presente can also mean a gift in formal or literary usage.
