optimismo
optimism
noun op-tee-MEES-moh Less Common
Origin: From French optimisme, coined from Latin optimus, 'best'.
Usage Note
Optimismo is always masculine (el optimismo). Its antonym is pesimismo. The phrase con optimismo (with optimism / optimistically) substitutes for the adverb optimistamente, which is clunky and rarely used. The adjective optimista is common-gender: una persona optimista, un tono optimista.
Examples
"Afrontó la situación con mucho optimismo."
Natural Translation
He faced the situation with a lot of optimism.
