Novillo refers to a young male bovine, typically between one and three years old, before it is considered a full toro (bull). The feminine novilla is a young cow. Novillos also appears in the colloquial expression hacer novillos (Spain), meaning to play truant or skip school — equivalent to 'playing hooky'.
