Usage Note

Machista derives from machismo, the cultural attitude of male superiority. The word is invariable in gender — un hombre machista and una actitud machista both use the same form. It is widely used across the Spanish-speaking world in feminist and social-justice discourse. The noun machista (a sexist person) uses the same form for both sexes.
