Usage Note
Irónicamente is used both in its literal sense (saying the opposite of what is meant) and as a discourse marker meaning 'as it happens' or 'as fate would have it' — similar to 'ironically' in English, though purists note that the colloquial use often means 'coincidentally' rather than true irony. Like all -mente adverbs, it can be shortened in a list: irónica y sorprendentemente.
Examples
"Irónicamente, llegó tarde a la reunión sobre puntualidad."
Natural Translation
Ironically, he arrived late to the meeting about punctuality.
