intimidad

intimacy

noun een-tee-mee-DAHD Rare

Also means

privacy

Usage Note

Intimidad refers to both emotional closeness between people and a person's private sphere — the law protects el derecho a la intimidad ('the right to privacy'). It is subtly stronger than privacidad (a newer Anglicism): intimidad implies personal depth, while privacidad is often used for data protection. The adjective íntimo/íntima ('intimate, close') is the related form.

Examples

"Valoraba mucho su intimidad en casa."

Natural Translation

She greatly valued her privacy at home.
