interesar

to interest

verb een-teh-reh-SAHR Less Common

Usage Note

Interesar works like gustar: the thing that interests is the grammatical subject, and the person interested is the indirect object — me interesa la historia ('history interests me,' literally 'history is interesting to me'). Saying yo intereso la historia would be wrong. The reflexive interesarse por means 'to take an interest in' or 'to inquire about': se interesó por mi salud ('she asked after my health').

Examples

"Le interesan los idiomas desde niño."

Natural Translation

He has been interested in languages since childhood.

Literal Translation

To-him interest languages since child.
