impresionar

to impress

verb eem-preh-syoh-NAHR Rare

Also means

to make an impression on

Usage Note

Impresionar means to impress or to have a strong emotional impact, not to print or stamp (that is imprimir). Reflexively, impresionarse means to be moved or shocked. The adjective impresionante ('impressive', 'stunning') is more frequent in everyday speech than the verb itself. Do not confuse with imprimir ('to print'), which shares the same root but is a different verb.

Examples

"Su actuación nos impresionó a todos."

Natural Translation

Her performance impressed us all.
