ilusorio

illusory

adjective ee-loo-SOH-ryoh Rare

Also means

deceptive

Usage Note

Ilusorio describes something that appears real but is not — a false impression rather than a genuine reality. It is not quite synonymous with ilusionado ('excited/hopeful'), a common false-friend trap: ilusionado carries a positive emotional sense. Ilusorio agrees in gender: ilusoria, and is most at home in formal or literary contexts.

Examples

"La paz parecía ilusoria en ese momento."

Natural Translation

Peace seemed illusory at that moment.
