Hundido is the past participle of hundir (to sink, to plunge). Literally it describes something physically submerged (el barco hundido = 'the sunken ship'). Figuratively estar hundido means to be emotionally crushed or devastated. Hundirse (reflexive) means 'to sink' or 'to collapse,' either physically or emotionally (se hundió tras la noticia).
