Usage Note
Granjear means to earn or win something intangible such as respect, sympathy, or favour, and is almost always reflexive: granjearse la confianza de alguien ('to earn someone's trust'). It is a formal register verb; in everyday speech ganar or conseguir fill the same role. It is not used for earning a salary — use ganar or cobrar for wages.
