Usage Note
Emigrante refers to someone who leaves their own country; the mirror term inmigrante describes the same person from the destination country's perspective. The word is common gender (el/la emigrante), so gender is marked only by the article. Do not confuse with emigrado, which often implies political exile.
Examples
"Mi abuela fue una emigrante que llegó a Argentina."
Natural Translation
My grandmother was an emigrant who arrived in Argentina.
