Usage Note
Emigrar describes leaving one's own country; inmigrar is the complementary verb for arriving in a new country. The person is an emigrante when leaving and an inmigrante when arriving. In Spanish the distinction between emigrar and inmigrar depends on the speaker's perspective — the same person can be both.
