divertir

to amuse; to entertain

verb dee-behr-TEER Rare

Also means

to have fun (reflexive)

Usage Note

Divertir is an e→ie stem-changing verb — me divierte but nos divertimos. The reflexive divertirse means 'to have fun' and is far more common in everyday speech: ¡Que te diviertas! is the standard send-off for someone going to a party. Avoid confusing it with entretener, which leans toward 'to keep occupied'.

Examples

"La película nos divirtió a todos."

Natural Translation

The film amused us all.
